  1. Toyota...KE20 JL3688 was my first car. Very reliable. Currently I have the "real" MPV in Liteace Premio 1.8. It has been 13 years and never once let me down. Still tip top.
REAL MPV! Yes, it could carry a kapcai without fuss. Could the modern MPVs do the same?
I will keep it for another 10 years at least...if I ever live that long.
Guring malam gin janak amun matukah kada mangalihi pagustian.

  2. Hahaha… Agreed. Toyota’s trademark has always been its reliability. Even now, you can still see a few of KE20 on the road. Toyota, for a majority of car fans, has a boring design.

IMO MPV is just a creation of brand by marketing people to elevate Van’s status. In other words, MPV is just a premium Van. Premium means you are going to pay higher. As usual premium and reliability don’t get well together. No, modern MPV is not designed to carry heavy duties task.

Another good example of brand's creation is Lexus. Lexus is a creation of brand by Toyota’s marketing people. It was purposely created to penetrate US cars’ premium market that had long been dominated by BMWs and Mercs. US’ buyers would not buy Toyota as a premium class, no matter how premium it is. Creation of Lexus Brand is a huge success for Toyota. It is now a number one choice in US for premium market.

It also defies what’s in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. That wasn’t the case for Toyota.

You wanna keep it for another 10 years? Good for you. Different people have different way of doing things. Taga amun ada baduit jangan dipalari banar. Jar urang bahari duit kadak hingkat dibawa ka kubur. Magun hidup ni pang hanak marasa. Kadada gin salahnya amun bujur jalan-nyak.

Bujurai tuk. Kawak guring janak amun matukah kadak mangalihi pagustian. Jar urang Soleh, jangan gurik janak banar, ngalih kinak hanak bangun subuh. Lakuk kalayuran.

  3. MPV is just a premium van...

Appreciate your explaination pertaining to marketing strategies of those so called giants of the auto industry. Or perhaps is more towards deceiving consumers!!!

Look up into any dictionary and you will find that MULTI means 'many or much'. Simply said, Multi Purose Vehicles should be able to carry out tasks equivalent if not superior to that of vans. Is that the case with MPV?

Leaving that aside, what irks me is the ruling by our RTD that original MPV (Van) owners have to pay more for road tax compared to 'clone' MPV. Yes, clone MPV. Beside carrying 7/8 people, what else can it do? Going off road? Day dreaming, perhaps.

Jangan sarik lah ulun bagarunum. Ulun ni ngalih handak bapisahan awan 'bini tuha'. Ada lagi sabuah matukah ulun 'civic sao' nang hanyar manyambut birthday 28. Sapuganya wayah ulun tukar march 81. Pamalar!! pamaras!!! Kada purun handak mambuang. Limbui paluh, li-ir katiak mamusuti tumatan ditukar sampai wahini.

  4. I took up Marketing Subject during my studies. Admittedly I m no expert in Marketing. But I can still recall a few of them…

In marketing line, they don’t call it deceiving. Deceiving doesn’t last long. Rather, they call it marketing strategies / creativities, that would allow them to focus their best resources on the greatest opportunities to increase sales, increase margin of profit and achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.

Yes, MPV, is an abbreviation of MULTI Purpose Vehicle. If we go by proper definition, it is: mini van, people-carrier, people-mover. It is not designed to carry out heavy duty tasks. It is luxurious item. To a certain extent, MPV is a showcase of your social status.

Hahaha… Van is less costly to maintain. It could carry people. It could carry heavy loads for business purposes. It is a real MPV. Due to its nature, logically speaking, it causes more damages to public road. Therefore, should pay more.

On a serious note, I don’t know Van is paying more for road tax, assuming their CC is in a same class. What I know, if it is for commercial use, yes, you have to pay more.

Ulun hingkat hajak mandangarik. Amun kawak manyampuk, ulun manyampuk. Bini tuhak ni ngalih hanak bapisah, kadak purun. Hahahaha… Amun binik tuhak mandangar nik, mauk muntung umang aming bamamaian… Maraha urang hanak manyambati napak, amun kada mengalihi patuanan, amun manjanakakan guring, amun hingkat lagik di bawak balalah… pakai hajak tarus.
